Health and well-being improvement tool
Introduction to the HWIT
The health and well-being improvement tool (HWIT) has been designed to help schools plan and record their work as part of the Healthy Schools enhancement model. It provides a series of questions for each stage of the enhancement model which act as prompts, enabling schools to keep a record of their work. It has also been developed to make it easy for schools to identify how responses can contribute towards the Ofsted self-evaluation form (SEF) and their school improvement plan.
Local programmes will support schools as they complete the health and well-being improvement tool (HWIT). They will automatically receive the two separate reports generated, when a school is ready to share information through the local quality assurance system. Local, regional and national co-ordinates can also generate a number of different reports to show how schools are progressing in a local area, region or across the country.
How to generate reports
The options relating to generating reports will differ according to whether you are a local programme co-ordinator, regional co-ordinator or national co-ordinator. To access details of the full range of reports available to you, login and go to the reports link. There are a range of reports which you can further tailor to meet your needs.
Access to information
The information that schools enter on the HWIT can be accessed by:
- staff in the school with login details for Healthy Schools
- the Healthy Schools Local Programme in the local authority or primary care trust.
Selected information will be used to inform decision-makers of the contribution schools are making towards health and well-being. This will happen at a regional and national level but the information used will not be school-specific.
Help with the HWIT
If a school is having difficulty responding to the questions in the HWIT, it is being advised to contact the Local Programme Co-ordinator.
Technical support is also available from the Healthy Schools technical helpline on: 0845 601 7848 or via support@healthyschools.gov.uk.
